External Job Description
Are you passionate about delivering high-impact, cross-functional, customer facing
projects? Are you a business, product, and technical leader – comfortable in the
boardroom as well as “in the code”, drilling into technical architecture and design?
Do you want to invent, develop and deliver state of the art mobile internet
technology to innovate the Chinese market? Can you lead across organizational and
functional boundaries to deliver business results? Amazon China is looking for a
Mobile Internet Technical Leader to lead a dedicated team of software development
managers and engineers in China focused on building our next generation Mobile
Appstore. Join our team and help us change the mobile internet landscape in China!
To address the opportunity in China, we need a technical leader who can leverage
the Amazon global technology platform, influence teams to make changes necessary
for the Chinese customer, and innovate ahead of the global platform to address use
cases not yet well served by our platform. As the most senior technical leader of
Appstore in China, this leader is responsible for helping local business and marketing
leaders define the strategy for success in the Chinese marketplace, as well as in
representing the global Appstore platform in that strategy. This includes partnering
with the US-based Appstore Product and Engineering teams to collaborate on global
features that delivery value for China, as well as bespoke features and needs for
China that require global support. This leader also owns overall China platform
Customer Experience, Availability, and Latency. He/She has to be able to provide
direction and leadership and drive solutions for Customer problems across technical
and business organizations. He or she will directly manage multiple teams of
software development managers and engineers across Web Services, User
Experience (UI/UX), and Android development to deliver local Appstore apps and
experiences for China. This leader will also be deeply involved with, and shall lead,
recruiting and hiring efforts to build up our local engineering team in China.
1. Basic Qualifications
This ideal candidate for this critical leadership role is expected to have
demonstrated the following:
•
Experience hiring and developing large engineering teams, specifically teams
focused on large-scale consumer-facing web sites and services
Proven success in delivering large-scale technology systems
Proven product development experience in consumer-focused companies
Development experience in OOP, Java, UNIX, Perl, C++, XML, Web services,
and UNIX tools
Hands-on architectural or distributed systems experience
Ability to think creatively, deal with ambiguity, and manage changing
priorities
•Ability to drive initiatives to completion in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present
complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of
audiences
•A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field is a must.
2. Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will, in addition to the basic qualifications listed above, have
experience with or have demonstrated the following:
•Deep knowledge of and/or experience working in the Chinese mobile internet
industry
•Development experience with Android, iOS and/or other mobile platforms
Recent project delivery experience in the mobile internet space, specifically in
mobile Websites and/or apps
•MS, Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Statistics, Applied Mathematics etc. is preferred.
